Through my painting I am exploring ideas about consciousness, color perception and the human experience in relation to ones environment. I draw my inspiration from Abstract Expressionism, as well as artists such as Mark Rothko and Georgia O’Keefe and research regarding color psychology and mindfulness. Through contemplation of these concepts I create abstract colorscapes that aim to project the viewer into a mindful awareness.
The great painter Mark Rothko once said that, “A painting is not a picture of an experience, it is an experience.” These words continue to propel my work. I hope to create works that provoke extended contemplation, and provide context for a transformative experience.
